Gordon Sampson

Gordon Sampson is a native of the Easton, located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He graduated from Moton High School traveled to the Western Shore to attend Bowie State College in 1965 and majored in Elementary Education. Gordon was very active in many student activities on campus. In 1967 Gordon, Larry Lawson and Douglas Waters became members of the Omega Psi PHI Fraternity, Inc. In 1968 the first chartered line and chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was established on Bowie State College campus. He received his B.S. degree in Elementary Education in1969 and a master's degree in 1979 in Administration and Supervision from B.S.C.

Gordon was hired to be a 6th grade teacher in Prince George County Public Schoos in 1969 and taught that grade level for ten years. In 1979 he got his master's degree and received his first administrative job as an instructional specialist. In 1980 he became an elementary school vice principal moved into the school principalship at the elementary, middle and high school levels. He remained working for the school's system until his retirement in 2000.

After his retirement he became Principal at Kent County School on the Eastern Shore, Director for the National Guard youth Challenge Academy, Mentor for new principals through the New Leaders for New Schools based out of New York, Adjunct professor for Educational Department at Bowie State University, He was inducted into the Bowie Athletic Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Gordon knew it was very important to give back to the college/ university that has given him so much. He became a member of the Bowie State University Foundation Board of Directors in 2017 serving as Chair for five years. He continues to work with the foundation today.
